Howard Hornreich

EXECUTIVE COUNCIL

Howard Hornreich was born  in the  Bronx, New York  and raised in Hamden, Connecticut.  Howard has worked for the past 32 years in Connecticut Public Schools in both suburban and urban settings. He is currently a resident of Woodbridge, CT and works as a school administrator in Hamden, Connecticut. He graduated from Southern Ct. State University with an undergraduate degree in Special Education and then received a M.S. in Middle Grades Education. He  received his 6th year degree in Educational Leadership in 2005  from the Sacred Heart University.

 

Howard began his teaching career in Bridgeport  working at Columbus School for 13 years, as a classroom teacher, a special education teacher and literacy coach. He also was a basketball coach and after school coordinator during his time in Bridgeport.  His first position as administrator was in the role of assistant principal at  Six to Six Magnet School in Bridgeport, Connecticut.  In 2011, he became principal  of Church Street School in Hamden and then transferred to Spring Glen School 4 years later as principal as well where he remains today. During his various  roles in administration, his schools consistently showed strong gains in academic achievement and were recognized by ConnCAN, Vanguard Schools and US News. He was nominated for the first year principal award through CAS after completing his first  year at Church Street School.

 

Howard has mentored  administrators to take on their own leadership roles in their respective districts. He  is looking forward to taking on a role with CFSA. He has been the treasurer of the Hamden Administrators  Union for many years. In his spare time, he officiates basketball games with IAABO and enjoys  exercising, traveling and spending time with his family.
